Darren is currently manager of East Sussex outfit Whitehawk

Successful spells followed at both Fulham and his home-town club both under Micky Adams but numerous hernia problems eventually forced him to quit professional football and moves to Margate and Worthing followed.

Two months later he made his debut as a substitute in the home game against Walsall when replacing Gareth Knott. However his Priestfield career was disrupted by injury and in all he made 14 appearances, eight of which were as a sub.

The Brighton born winger had played for a number of non-league clubs, mostly in Sussex, before joining the Gills in January 1995. 1973 - Darren Freeman


He made 34 appearances, scoring six times, in his one season with the Gills, leaving for Tunbridge Wells in August 1935

In his two seasons at the club, Charles scored 24 goals in 88 appearances before moving to Maidstone United in the summer of 1923.
