BIRTHS...

1906 - Roy Bethell

Roy, a forward, was signed from Charlton Athletic in May 1929 and made his debut on the opening day of the following season.

His first goal came in a 5-0 home win against Newport County in April 1930 and went on to score 34 goals in 173 appearances


1909 - David Whitelaw

The Scottish keeper was signed from Southend United in July 1935 and made his debut at Reading two months later.

He was a regular over the next four season's making a total of 152 appearances.


1911 - Len Darling

Local lad Len was signed from Chatham Town in May 1932 and made his league bow at Brighton on the opening day of 1932-33.

He only played in the opening four months of the season playing 15 games.

The following summer he joined Brighton

DEATH...
 
1990 - Robert John Robinson

Centre-half Robert, only appeared twice for the Gills in December 1929 having joined from the R.A.F, making his debut was at Newport County.

He died on 9 August 1990 in Havant.
