The Wolverhampton born left-back joined the club from Wolves and went on to play 81 times before joining Millwall

DEATHS...

1959 - Albert Goodman

Albert made just six appearances in the 1925-26 season after signing from Charlton Athletic and moved on to Clapton Orient in the summer.


1993 - John Simpson

The Gillingham goalkeeping legend went on to set a club record of 617 appearances for the club after manager Archie Clark splashed out £750 to bring him to Priestfield in June 1957.

He was an ever-present in the Fourth Division title winning side in 1963-64 - keeping 24 clean sheets as the Gills conceded a divisional record of just 30 goals.

He was twice named Player-of-the-Year and a crowd of 9,118 turned up for his testimonial game with Crystal Palace.

John died on Tuesday 7 December 1993, following a short illness, aged 60
