GILLS RECEIVE MONTHLY NOMINATIONS

Martin Allen and Myles Weston nominated for npower awards...

Martin Allen and Myles Weston are among the nominees for the npower League Two Manager and Player of the Month Awards for August.

Gillingham are unbeaten in the league after five games and are currently top of the table – one point clear of nearest rivals Exeter City.

The Gills began the campaign by defeating Bradford City 3-1 at MEMS Priestfield before defeating Wycombe Wanderers 1-0 at Adams Park three days later.

A 2-1 win over Dagenham was followed up by a 1-1 home draw with Chesterfield; however Martin’s side got back to winning ways straight away by overcoming Barnet 3-1 at Underhill on Saturday.

The other nominees for the manager’s award are Paul Tisdale (Exeter City) and Chris Wilder (Oxford United), who are 2nd and 6th in the league respectively.

As for the player award, Myles Weston has been rewarded for his positive start to the season with a nomination. The pacey winger has scored twice in the opening five fixtures having scored on his debut against Bradford, and then again against Dagenham & Redbridge a week later.

His competition for the award comes from Iain Dunbavin of Accrington Stanley and Jake Wright of Oxford.
