AFC Sudbury FC say thanks following friendly
On July 25 a Gillingham XI travelled up to Suffolk for a friendly against AFC Sudbury FC of the Ryman League Division One North which the home side eventually won 3-2 after Kane Haysman and Ashley Miller had put Mark Patterson’s side two-up.In yesterday’s Non-League Paper, the Yellows non-executive director Brian Tatum wrote the following letter about the Gills visit to the MEL Group Stadium -
How surprising and refreshing it is to find a visiting team leave their dressing room immaculately clean following a match as Gillingham did following a recent pre-season friendly at my club.
I understand the League One Gills are renouned for keeping the visiting dressing rooms neat and tidy before leaving, even to the extent of taking their own cleaning equipment to do so.
It just goes to show that amid these days of blemished reputations in the pro game, respect and diplomacy still exists.
So, take a bow Martin Allen and Gillingham FC, you may have just started a trend that could reduce the burden on hard-pressed volunteers that are the lifeblood of clubs at our level.
