The goalkeeper was a trainee with West Ham United but made just one appearance for the Hammers, that came in an Anglo-Italian Cup game at home to Bristol Rovers.
A free transfer brought him to Gillingham in March 1993 but had to wait until the visit of Doncaster Rovers in August before making his debut.
Steve, who is currently goalkeeping coach at Dundee United, played 116 games for the Gills in two different spells.
He also had spells at Blackpool, Bolton Wanderers, Rochdale (loan), Bradford City (loan), Stoke City, MK Dons (non-contract) and Hearts.
