WILLIAMS: "I'M REALLY EXCITED"

On loan winger eager to impress

Gills new signing Ryan Williams says the players have already made him feel at home and he’s looking forward to being involved in the squad that takes on Dagenham & Redbridge later today.

The winger, who signed on loan from Fulham on Thursday morning, is excited about the prospect of being part of a side who are towards the top of the league table, and says he will do his best to make a positive impact.

Speaking exclusively to Gills Player, he said:

“I’m really excited to be playing in a first team somewhere, and with Gillingham being second in the league it’s exciting to come to a winning team.

“There’s a big difference between Under 21’s football and League Two football and I’ve come here to prove myself to everyone and just see where I can go from here.

“It’s a good sign that a team in such good form at the moment are interested in you and want you to join the team for a little while and help out. They are helping me out by having me here and hopefully I can help them too.

“I try my best, I see myself as a fast player who beats defenders so we’ll take it from there. I do like to get some crosses in and hopefully get a few goals aswell.”

Ryan revealed how the move to Priestfield came about, how the players have helped him to settle and whether or not it made a difference beginning his loan spell with a home fixture.

He said: “Monday night we had an Under-21’s game against Everton, I did quite well and he [Martin Allen] was there watching, on Tuesday I knew there was a bit of interest and on Wednesday I jumped at the chance to come here.

“The boys made me feel at home, they came and introduced themselves to us so we couldn’t have asked for more. Training has gone well, the manager is happy so I’m happy too.

“I don’t mind as long as I’m in the squad and playing, home games are always a lot more fun than away games but I’m looking forward to it.”
