Midfielder becomes second new signing of transfer window...
Gillingham have confirmed the signing of midfielder Steven Gregory on a free transfer.
The 25-year-old, who was released by League One Bournemouth last month, has signed an 18-month contract which keeps him at MEMS Priestfield until the end of the 2013/14 season and has been given shirt number 28.
Gregory is the club’s second signing of the January transfer window having signed defender Leon Legge prior to the game against Southend on New Years’ Day, and could go straight in to the squad for Saturday’s trip to Bristol Rovers.
Gregory began his career as a youth player at Wycombe Wanderers and went on to feature four times for the first team before heading to non-league Hayes and Yeading and Havant and Waterlooville for some valuable match experience.
He was then signed by AFC Wimbledon for the first time in 2009 where he went on to play 85 times for the club in all competitions, scoring one goal in the process.
While with the club he helped the team to gain promotion to the Football League via the play-offs, and started the final against Luton Town at Wembley Stadium in May of last year,
He impressed enough to gain a transfer to Bournemouth just a month later for an undisclosed fee where he went on to play 33 games, scoring twice.
However he found his chances limited at the start of this season and so signed for the Dons for a second time, this time on a three month loan deal which saw him play against Gillingham in October where the Gills came away from Kingsmeadow with a 1-0 win.
