BIRTHS...
1914 - Syd Hartley
The right-back was signed from Clapton Orient in June 1936 and he made his debut early the following season against Bournemouth.
Syd went on to score once in 82 matches for the Gills before joining Bristol Rovers in May 1938.
1942 - John Jervis
The former Blackburn Rovers forward came to Gillingham in July 1961 but was to make just one appearance for the club.
That was the infamous league game at Barrow in October 1961 when travelling difficulties saw the Gills not only arrive late but get hammered 7-0 in a game abandoned after 76 minutes through bad light - however the result stood.
He returned to his native north-west with Stalybridge Celtic the following summer.
1983 - Michael Phillips
The attacking midfielder came through the ranks at Priestfield but made just one first-team appearance as a substitute at home to Blackburn Rovers in May 2001.
Unfortunately his early career was blighted by injuries but he has since played for a number of non-league sides, mostly in Kent, and is currently in a second spell at Maidstone United.
