BIRTHS…
1900 - Edward Donaghy
Edward joined Gillingham from Derby County in July 1927 and made his debut the following month at Charlton Athletic on the opening day of the new campaign.
He made just four appearances in his one season with the club before moving to French football the following summer.
Then between 1931 and 1935 he coached Dutch giants Feyenoord, winning two league titles.
1909 - Walter Rivers
Wally, a forward who joined the Gills from home town club Throckley Welfare in the North-East in September 1927, didn't make his debut until 13 months later when Crystal Palace came to Priestfield.
He must have impressed the South London side because after scoring one goal in five games he moved to Selhurst Park in August 1929.
1959 - Paul Shinners
The raw, tall centre-forward was signed from Fisher Athletic in August 1984 but didn't make his debut, as a substitute, until early October when Plymouth Argyle visited Priestfield.
After a loan spell at Colchester United, Paul, who had netted once in eight appearances for the Gills, joined Leyton Orient where he impressed as a target man.
