MARTIN: "IT'S BEEN A GOOD DAY"

Martin happy with performance against Bromley

Martin Allen said all of his players had put in a good shift following another double header of games on Saturday.

The younger squad members were in action against a London academy side at MEMS Priestfield Stadium in the morning prior to the first team fixture against Bromley at Hayes Lane.

The morning match produced a 3-3 draw, while the first team cruised to a comfortable 3-0 win over the Conference South side.

Bradley Dack, Adam Barrett and Danny Kedwell via the penalty spot sealed the victory, and Martin said the day had provided a good workout.

He said: “The boys this morning did OK at the ground and at Bromley it was a great test but what a good game.

“Difficult to play in because of the temperature but the pitch was in very good condition and we have been very well looked after and all the players have come through with no injuries.

“We changed it to 45 minutes per player because of the heat and I thought it was a fantastic workout and everyone put a real shift in.

"It’s been a good day, we were 3-0 up at half time and had two disallowed aswell.”

Bayo Akinfewa played 45 minutes after coming on as a second half substitute, and Martin said he is more than aware of what the striker will bring to the team.

He added: “He’s a nice bloke and loves it at Gillingham. He could have gone to another club on a two-year contract and earnt more money, but he wanted to come here for a year.

“I know what he can do, I know what he’s like and he will do well for our club.”

Finally Martin revealed that there could be some transfer activity in the next couple of days, however business may see a player leaving the club rather than any coming in.

He said: “We don’t go until Tuesday so we will see what happens over the next couple of days but Charlie Lee is in talks with Southend.”
