MARTIN: "INJURIES ARE NOT A PROBLEM"

Gills Manager not worried if he loses a few players through injury for Accrington game

Martin Allen has said that any injuries the team has picked up during Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with Rochdale will not cause a problem as there are plenty of players ready to come in and take their place.

Following the game Martin said that Bradley Dack, Matt Fish, Charlie Lee and Chris Whelpdale had all suffered varying degrees of issues, but said the management will have no hesitation in putting others in to the team for the visit of Accrington.

Regarding the injury to Dack first of all he said: “Well that was another late tackle so he will be dodgy for the weekend. Fish is another one who is dodgy, Charlie Lee will struggle aswell so that’s three.

“Chris Whelpdale is another one who will struggle after a tackle so we’ve taken a few blows but when you go in to battles that is what happens.

“I am not complaining and I’m not moaning, you take it on the chin and deal with it. If they are not fit then we have some fantastic players who can come in and play and are absolutely champing at the bit to represent our club on Saturday.

“It’s not a problem for me I can promise you. Our players are fit, strong, fast and work so hard together as a squad and it just means other people can now come in and play and it’s their chance to do it.

“They have all contributed towards our points total and we have gone another point clear. Every one we get towards that total is good.

Martin shrugged off questions suggesting the last ten days has been `long` and re-iterated that everybody at the club focusses on the next game only.

He added: “These are all challenges that we face but we don’t look at it as `oh my god, this is a long week and let’s hope we do alright, ` we keep calm and we look at it as another game and then look on to the next one.

“Whatever comes our way we can cope and manage with it and now we will bring a few more players in to the team for Saturday and step on again.

“I’ve got a squad, we pay a squad and we will utilise the squad. They all know they are going to get opportunities so nothing has changed from day one.

“Gregory played very well against Plymouth so he is unlucky not to have played. Birchall has been on fire in training and Deon Burton is our top goal scorer from open play on the bench.

“Kedwell was great last night but I knew I was going to rotate and change the players in the positions because it can be a tiring schedule.

“I’m absolutely delighted with him; he has worked so hard behind the scenes. You have to work hard to get your breaks; you can’t just expect them to fall on your plate.

“He set up play, he defended from the front, he’s winning his headers, he chased the ball down and that was a reward for his overall performance.

“He has been unlucky on quite a few occasions has Danny but you have to keep his confidence, keep working with him in training and if keeps putting the effort in then he will get more goals between now and the end of the season no doubt.”
