BIRTHS...

1925 - Joe Campbell

The Scot had played for St Mark's YM, St Anthony's, Glasgow Celtic and Leyton Orient before Archie Clark paid £2,000 to bring him to Gillingham in September 1950.

Just hours later Joe made his debut against Millwall at home but in his one season with the club he scored twice in a dozen games.

The following summer Joe moved to Bedford Town.

1987 - Simeon Jackson

Having been born in Jamaica and growing up in Canada, Simeon had played for Sunoco FC, ASPIRE Academy and Dulwich Hamlet as a youngster, he also had an unsuccessful trial with the youth team here at Priestfield.

He joined Rushden & Diamonds in August 2004 and had scored 42 goals in 93 games for the non-league side before Mark Stimson paid £150,000 for his services in January 2008, the striker signing a three-and-a-half year contract.

He made his debut for the club in the 0-0 home draw with Cheltenham Town but initially found it difficult to find his goalscoring form in League One and it took nine games before finding the net against AFC Bournemouth.

Over the next two seasons he hit 39 goals including two memorable one's, the first in the FA Cup Third Round tie with Aston Villa and then of course the last gasp goal against Shrewsbury Town in the play-off final at Wembley that secured promotion to League One.

Seven days after that goal Jackson made his debut for Canada, scoring the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win over Cyprus in Lanarca.

In July 2010 he moved to Norwich City for an undisclosed fee which included Cody McDonald spending a season on loan here at Priestfield and has gone on to score 17 goals for the Canaries so far.
