Gills Manager delighted with effort after deserved victory at Bramall Lane
Peter Taylor praised his players for what he described as `a team performance` following the 2-1 win over Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Saturday.
Goals from Danny Kedwell and Cody McDonald either side of half time, sandwiched by a Chris Porter header, sealed all three points for the visitors to propel them up to 14th in the Sky Bet League One table.
Following the game Peter said: “It was a team effort, we did some good things but of course at times we were really asked to defend aswell and I think the players worked extremely hard as a group and you can’t ask for any more than that.
“There have been lots of times since I’ve been here we haven’t played anywhere near the way we would like to play and we have been disappointing, but the effort I have never questioned and today was a team performance.
“When you are winning the opposition have to take a bit of a gamble and if you know you have people that can run towards their goal quickly then you have a chance of a counter attack.
“We had to defend as a team but we always thought we could nick a goal, the timings of the goals for us were great. Not so much the Kedwell one because he got whacked and had to come off, that was a bit unlucky for us.
“Overall I’m chuffed for them because they’ve worked hard.
“To me it’s still in progress, it doesn’t mean because we’ve won today that we will win a load more matches, we need to keep at it and we have another difficult game Monday.”
