TAYLOR: WE NEED TO BE STRONGER

Peter Taylor talks to the media following narrow defeat to Oldham at Priestfield

Peter Taylor says his players need to be stronger at home following the 1-0 defeat to Oldham at MEMS Priestfield Stadium on Saturday.

, and although the Gills had a lot of the ball in the closing stages, they were unable to beat keeper Mark Oxley.sealed all three points for the visitors minute goal from Michael Petrasso thA 57

Following the game Peter said: “I’m just frustrated really because we are not showing what we are capable of playing and I think we just seem to be losing a lot of confidence too easily.

“If everything starts right we are going to have a good afternoon, sometimes if somebody makes a bit of a mistake it might affect their performance.

“I think we just need to be a bit stronger than that. They kept going and worked as hard as they possibly could but unfortunately we couldn’t break them down.

“I think that you have to want the ball and you need to have a plan in your head to go and create something. Momentum wise we just took too long in everything we did.

“A midfield player might have had three touches where, if he had a plan in his head, two would have been enough.

“I felt just before half time Oldham were having too much of the ball and were trying to hurt us.

"In the second half they didn’t hurt us anywhere near as much and it was a very disappointing goal for us and I want to see exactly how they got through that final bit, once I see that on the DVD I will make a decision.

“It was a poor goal and we’ve got to start getting more clean sheets because there are times, as we are showing, you don’t play the way you want to play but then you have to make sure you don’t give anything away.

“The players are not showing as much confidence as I would like at home which is going to affect their performance.”
