Darren Hare previews cup fixture
The Gills will begin their FA Youth Cup campaign on Tuesday night when Darren Hare's Academy side take on Brentford at MEMS Priestfield Stadium. The youth team have been in good form lately and will go in to the fixture off the back of a 4-0 win over Peterborough at Beechings Cross on Saturday.
Darren is looking forward to the game and told the club's official website:
“It will be an extremely tough game and the toughest of our season.
“They are category two so they play against the big boys every week. I would say they are favourites and we are under dogs even though we are at home but if we perform like we have done in the last few weeks in terms of effort and endeavour then we have got a chance.
“It won’t be easy, they will have done their homework on us but we will adopt a similar mentality.
“It creates a different type of pressure playing at Priestfield; they will be looking forward to playing on the surface and it’s all they are thinking about and I won’t knock that.
“I only have 11 fit players – Sam Muggleton is struggling, Ross Ibbertson will be a sub at best if he manages to get fit.
"Greg Cundle’s no good and nor is Connor Hendricks so I only have a couple of non-contract players in Max Kilman and Tom Hadler and the U16 boys to fill the bench so I am down to bare minimum.”
Kick-Off will be at 7pm, with ticket prices for the game as follows:
Adults - £4
Concessions and Under 18's - £2
