GILLS VISIT DEMELZA HOUSE

GFC Community Trust pay a visit to local charity

Last weekend Gillingham FC Community Trust visited Demelza House in Sittingbourne, to support the ‘Holding On, Letting Go’ cause.  This charity looks to support and help children of various ages through a difficult time in their lives when they have lost a loved one.

With fantastic help from the charity’s volunteers the children spend two days taking part in different tasks and activities, which aim to help them express how they have dealt with their losses.

Head of Community Adam Lawrence and Gills Mascot Tommy Trewblu visited the group on Sunday, with the aim being to offer some fun football based games, but the weather wasn’t playing ball and so it was to Plan B.

As the rain lashed down outside, Tommy entertained the younger children while Adam had a chance to talk to some of the older children and chat about hot topics like how England would do against Poland and if they would qualify for the World Cup.

Adam commented: “It is always enjoyable being able to visit Demelza House and support the Holding On, Letting Go programme.  The kids love to see Tommy T, and he enjoys meeting them.

"The volunteers and staff work incredibly hard in organising these weekends, and deserve a lot of credit for that. It’s a shame the rain meant we couldn’t go out and play football but Tommy did a great job of keeping everyone amused and it was nice to have the opportunity to just sit down and talk to the children.”

Thank you again to the staff of Demelza House for inviting us along and we look forward to seeing you all again soon.
