Signed by Andy Hessenthaler in July 2000, Chris was recruited from Scunthorpe United for a fee of £250,000 as the Gills prepared for their first season in the Championship.
Chris racked up a staggering 176 consecutive appearances, over his first four seasons with the Gills, and was ever-present in the side that secured the club’s highest ever League finish, ending the 2002/03 season 11th placed in the Championship.
