Minterne Community Junior School emerge victorious from Saturday’s shoot-out
Our last home game saw the Gills take on Preston in Sky Bet League 1 and last year’s Football League Kids Cup winners, Minterne Community Junior School take on St Benedicts RC Primary School in the half-time shoot-out competition. Each player has seven seconds to score from the edge of the D and can choose to dribble and shoot or simply fire straight at goal. The keepers are allowed to move off their line, as soon as the whistle sounds, and put the striker under pressure, meaning that both players have to think and act fast.
Minterne put themselves under pressure as their first shot went just wide of the post, while St Benedicts tucked away their first to take an early lead. However Minterne recovered strongly and maintained the pressure to regain control and win the competition 4-3.
Congratulations to Minterne who are through to the second of our Quarter-Finals which is scheduled to take place when the Gills face Sheffield United in the New Year.
You’ve not got long before our next contest as All Faiths’ Children’s Community School face Brompton Westbrook Primary School when the Gills take on Notts County on Tuesday 22 October.
