Skipper calls on squad to stay together as Gills continue to look for first win
Gills skipper Adam Barrett said it was disappointing to suffer defeat against Bradford, but is adamant there are strong enough characters to turn results around.
, and the Captain said the squad must continue fighting for one another as they look to get some points on the board.victory for the BantamsA goal in the first half from Andrew Davies via a Gary Jones corner proved enough to clinch a 1-0
After the game he said: “Very disappointing, obviously being at home today we wanted to get that elusive win and get us going and I don’t even know what happened with the goal.
“It was whipped in at the near post, I don’t think he hit it right and it took a couple of deflections along the way and that just seems to be the way things are going at the moment.
“That went in; we’re 1-0 down at home and desperate to do well. We had a couple of good chances ourselves and we’re just not taking them at the moment and we seem to get punished for any little thing at the back.
“We’ll have to look back at the goal and see what happened.
“We came in to the season full of confidence and we knew we had a tough start on paper and sometimes the longer you go without that win it can be difficult and we are finding that at the moment.
“We need to stick together, we need to stay positive, there is a long way to go but we need to start picking up points. We need to start taking our chances – last year everything went our way and now it’s going against us.
“We’ll see the real characters, we need to stand up and be counted, fight for one another and if you go and get a couple of results you can easily get out of it and that’s what we’ve got to strive to do.
“We need to be positive, be brave and have belief. We have good characters so I’m sure we can pull through this sticky period.”
