MARTIN: "PERFORMANCES HAVE BEEN GOOD"

Martin happy with performance despite JPT exit

Martin Allen praised his side once again for the level of commitment and dedication shown following the 3-1 defeat to Leyton Orient in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy at MEMS Priestfield Stadium on Tuesday night.

, but Martin said he couldn’t fault the performance.side through to the next roundA hat-trick from Shaun Batt was enough to put Russell Slade’s

He said: “I thought we played very well to be honest and we played some great football in the first half – we dominated possession and made some good chances.

“In the second half we changed our way of playing a little bit to try and get back in to it. Again we made some good chances but we weren’t able to unlock the door.

“The team are playing alright but we are just coming unstuck with a few individual errors here and there and we are getting punished.

“The shots and attempts we are having are just missing the post or just wide. Perhaps a few good saves from the keeper but on the whole it’s a challenge now to work out how to make it better because the performances have been good.

“It was good to see Cody getting out and playing tonight; he played really well and was unlucky with a few chances. The German has been very good in training and he played well; Bradley Dack was put in and these players did need to play so I have no regrets about playing them.

“That’s Danny’s [Hollands] first game for a month so it was good to see him. I took Gregory off at half time, he was playing very well but he had a yellow card and I didn’t want to lose him.

“Linganzi isn’t yet fit so I had that dilemma at half time what to do. He had to come off – Charlie Lee has done extremely well recently but I rested him to be ready for Saturday and everyone could see how hard Bayo worked Saturday.

“I rested him too. No regrets about the team I picked – I’m delighted with the attitude and the application of everybody that played tonight and all of our supporters that paid to come and watch would say we gave it a good go.”
