Our legend for next Saturday’s skyBET League One match with Bradford City is Gills inspirational skipper and uncompromising centre-half Alan Walker. Don’t miss your chance to meet a legend, simply upgrade to our Legends Lounge hospitality package todayAlan joined the Gills from Millwall, in March 1987 commanding a fee of £50,000, and scored 16 times in 170 appearances for the club, many of which saw him wear the Captain’s armband.
His whole-hearted approach and never say die attitude to the game was perhaps best epitomised by Alan’s late headed consolation goal for the Gills against Maidstone United in the first ever Kent League derby at Priestfield on Boxing Day 1989.
In front of a capacity crowd, with the Gills 2-0 down and less than two minutes left on the clock, Walks flung himself at a cross from the right and crashed home a diving header, colliding with the upright and knocking himself unconscious in the process.
