GILLS GEARING UP FOR CHARITY BIKE RIDE

Gillingham FC out in force to promote Ride with the Gills charity bike ride on Saturday May 17

Gillingham FC staff were out in force on Wednesday afternoon to promote our upcoming "Ride with the Gills" charity bike ride.

Chris Whelpdale, Matt Fish, Danny Kedwell, Gary Borrowdale, Josh Hare, Aaron Millbank and George Howard were joined by the GFC Gems and members of the commercial team at Tesco's Extra at Courtneney Road in Gillingham.

The players, having arrived at midday, were at the venue for just under an hour and handed out fliers and spoke to customers inside the store, in addition to having photos taken with some of the shop staff.

Two spin bikes were also in full view as the players racked up as many miles as they could within the hour.

Speaking to the club's official website Whelpdale said: "It was a lot of fun, all of the boys really enjoyed it and we are raising awareness for a great event which is happening at the club in mid-May.

"It's something different for the Football Club and I know the staff behind the scenes are working very hard to make it happen."

Kedwell added: "Ride with the Gills is going to be the biggest fund raising event in the club's history and we want as many people involved as possible.

"I think a lot of people were surprised to see us just inside the entrance to a supermarket but we did our utmost to be salesmen for the day and I think we did well!"

Matt Fish, who is on the return to full fitness, certainly took to the task well of promoting "Ride with the Gills" and enjoyed the experience.

He said: "I think me, Chris and Keds being on the bikes definitely raised a few eyebrows and people were then intrigued to see what we were promoting.

"We raised as much awareness as we could and spoke to a number of people regarding the ride, and hopefully people get their bikes out and join the team for a great day out."

Ride with the Gills is raising money for the club's official charity, Take Heart Mercy Mission, and will take place on Saturday May 17.
