We look ahead to Saturday's league fixture between Barnsley and Gillingham at Oakwell

BARNSLEY V GILLINGHAM
Sky Bet League One
Oakwell
Saturday August 23
Kick-Off, 3pm

Team News:

Peter Taylor has injury concerns over Doug Loft (Achilles), Cody McDonald (ankle), Amine Linganzi (hamstring) and Stuart Nelson (thumb) for the trip to Yorkshire.

Joe Martin (thigh) may not be available, although he has a chance for Tuesday’s match against Newcastle.

However Josh Hare (concussion) is available having been substituted last Saturday against Yeovil. Aaron Morris may also return after being unavailable midweek.

Manager Comments:

Peter Taylor believes playing Barnsley earlier in the season may be a slight advantage, but is still expecting a tough match regardless.

Speaking to the club’s official website he said: “I think it’s going to be a bit like Yeovil – another team that has come down from the Championship, there have been a lot of changes but I’m sure with Danny there he will be looking to build a good team so maybe the early fixture is a better one for us.”

Danny Wilson said: “With them, they’re very, very capable of going anywhere in the league and getting a result. We have to be mindful and respectful to them but also try and focus on our strengths.”

Previous Meetings:

The clubs have met on 26 occasions in total – Barnsley have the edge in the head to head statistics with 11 victories to their name.

Gills have won six games with the other nine being a draw.
