GILLINGHAM FC SIGN STEPHEN BYWATER ON LOAN

Gillingham FC have signed former West Ham United goalkeeper Stephen Bywater on loan from Championship side Millwall until January 3

Gillingham FC have bolstered their goalkeeping options with the signing of former Premiership stopper Stephen Bywater on loan.

Stephen, 33, has signed a deal from Championship side Millwall until January 3 and is eligible to play in tomorrow's home league fixture with Yeovil Town.

He can also play in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy and Capital One Cup competitions, however he is not able to play in FA Cup ties.

Bywater is a highly experienced goalkeeper, playing in the top flight with both West Ham and Derby County - making over 300 professional appearances in the process.

He will provide competition for Glenn Morris who has had to step in for the injured Stuart Nelson.

The Gills number one will be out of action for at least six weeks with a thumb injury sustained in last Saturday's 4-2 defeat to MK Dons.

Stephen will wear the number 30 shirt.
