TAYLOR WAITING ON INJURY NEWS

Gills boss Peter Taylor says he is awaiting confirmation on how long Stuart Nelson will be out for prior to deciding if an extra goalkeeper is required on loan

Peter Taylor says the club may have to look at bringing in another goalkeeper if Stuart Nelson is out for longer than a month.

The Gills number one sustained a thumb injury in Saturday’s opening day defeat to MK Dons, and although Taylor is unaware at this stage how long Stuart will be out for, he says if it’s a long term issue he will need to think about reinforcements.

He said: “Well we’ve got to do that once we find out exactly how long it’s going to be. If it’s not going to be a long time we will take the chance in having one goalkeeper with a young one on the bench, but if it’s a longer one we’ve got to act.

“We are not 100%, it could be one, two or three months but it won’t be less than that.”

As for Cody McDonald, Taylor says the club are not certain about him either as he still has swelling around his ankle.

He said: “Again, we don’t know. His knee has gone down but his ankle is very swollen.

“When things like that happen it gives another player the opportunity and it’s up to them to take it.”
