TAYLOR: IT WAS A GOOD TEST

Peter Taylor delivers his reaction following the 3-1 win over Folkestone at Cheriton Road

Peter Taylor said he was pleased to get a winning start to the club’s pre-season campaign following the 3-1 win over Folkestone on Friday night.

Goals from Danny Kedwell, Brennan Dickenson and Doug Loft ensured the Gills claimed victory at the Fullicks Stadium, and the Manager was pleased with the evening’s work considering the amount of training that had been performed in the previous few days.

Speaking after the game he said: “It was a good test, Folkestone did well and they tried to pass the ball around and they asked some different questions but overall I was very pleased with the 90 minutes.

“Simply because the players have had a hard week – we have trained nearly twice a day every day and it was only Wednesday we didn’t train twice.

“We trained again Friday morning so it was just a case of adding to their fitness and I thought they did some good things.”

Peter made nine changes at the half time break to give some of his new signings some minutes under their belt, with Gary Borrowdale getting a little longer as he explained:

“I wanted the new boys to have a little look at the team for the first half which is why I didn’t put them,” he said.

“But overall it was fine – it was just a case of giving everyone 45 minutes, and with Gary Borrowdale we are trying to up his fitness which is why he had longer.

“He’s working extremely hard and people would have seen tonight that on the ball he’s as good as you’re going to get in League One.

“Defensively he will work hard to get fitter so he can handle it.”
