GFC Gems visit Newington Cricket Club to help raise money for Demelza House
The GFC Gems were at Newington Cricket Club on Sunday to help raise money for Demelza House, a charity which Gillingham FC is proud to support.The club was hosting the annual `Demelza Cup, ` where a number of teams came together to compete for the trophy, and in doing so, raise awareness for the hospice.
On the day two sides, Primero Properties Xl and Demelza Xl, shared the trophy with 61 pts each. Arcadians came third with 59 and Newington fourth with 29.
The day was considered the club's best social occasion of the year with several members of the club, along with friends and family, turning up and managing to raise over £650.
SFM were keeping everyone entertained on the day with their outside broadcast radio van who also interviewed members of the Gems.
The girls did two routines in the break which went down really well and they were happy to support such a fantastic cause.
Gems leader Suzie Illsley said: “We had a great time at Newington Cricket Club and were able to enjoy the lovely weather that we had.
"Everyone had a lovely time and we managed to raise a large amount of money. The Newington Cricket team were great fun and made us feel really welcome."
