Peter Taylor comments on the release of Gillingham FC's 2014-15 fixture release
Gills boss Peter Taylor says he is looking forward to seeing his players in pre-season following the announcement of the club’s fixtures on Wednesday.Gillingham will travel to MK Dons in the first game of the 2014/15 campaign on Saturday August 9, and the Manager said it’s a good way to start the season.
He said: “Every game is a tough one at this level as we know but it’s a lovely stadium and the pitch will be magnificent. They will have a new faces, they have lost a couple too so it will be an interesting game.
“We very recently went there and got an excellent result so hopefully we can repeat that.
“Sometimes that makes them more determined or makes them think that Gillingham could win away. The most important thing that I look at from our first game is that we look a decent unit.
“You would love to get a result in your first game but you would really like to say that we look like we’ve had six good weeks of preparation and we look the part – that’s what I will be looking at.
“If we have that then you know it gives you the confidence to get ready for the second game and then you kick on.
“We know we have a bit more traveling to do but the fixtures over Christmas and Easter look pretty good to me. Yes we have some long ones midweek but that’s what it’s all about.
“It’s always exciting when the fixtures come out and you start looking forward to seeing the teams and how they prepare.”
Peter went on to reveal what the club’s pre-season plans are, with some players due to return at the end of the month.
He added: “They are back 100% on the 2nd of July but half of them will be here on June 30 and the other half on July 1 because they are doing some testing and we are going to the University to do that.
“The boys know what they’ve got to do; I’m fully expecting a lot of them to come back very fit.”
