Saturday’s home game against Crewe Alexandra saw the last Quarter-Final of our popular Half-Time Penalty-Shootout take place.St Thomas of Canterbury RC Primary School took on Davington Primary School for the last place in the semi-finals.
Both schools arrived with five outfield players and a goalkeeper. The outfield players have seven seconds to score form the edge of the D, from when the whistle goes.
They can either score by dribbling it past the keeper or shooting straight away, at the same time the keepers can charge off their line as soon as they hear the whistle.
Before the shoot-out began both teams were invited into the stadium to go over the rules and get changed in to their school team colours, all were ready and excited to start.
At half-time both schools queued up in the tunnel and as the whistle blew they both proudly walked on to the pitch where they had a quick warm up before the action began.
Both teams seemed confident, scoring some calm and clinical finishes in front of the Rainham End. The fans were on their feet cheering the teams on and hoping for some more great goals.
Finally the last player stepped up and slotted the ball away for Davington to secure the final space in the semi-finals and will see them face Barnsole Primary School when the Gills face Tranmere on 18th April.
