Peter Taylor calls on his team to perform better as Crewe take all three points from Priestfield in 3-1 win
3-1 defeat to Crewe Alexandra at MEMS Priestfield on Saturday.Peter Taylor described his team’s performance as `not good enough` following the
Chuks Aneke and Matthias Pogba got the goals which clinched victory for the visitors; Gills having drawn level before the interval as Amine Linganzi registered his first goal for the club with a well placed header.
However the visitors netted twice in the second half without reply, having to make do with ten men in the final few minutes when Anthony Grant was booked twice in the space of a couple of minutes.
Peter said after the game that future performances must be better.
He said: “Not good enough really, I felt on the day Crewe had more players on the pitch that were better than ours so I am very disappointed with our performance.
“There didn’t seem to be enough energy, I know there were a few little things that maybe didn’t go our way but I’m not convinced we deserved them to.
“To me they started better than us; I can’t really understand it because at eight minutes to three when the boys are ready to go they look as if they are going to start well, but unfortunately it wasn’t to be.
“I think we finished the first half quite well, the last 20 minutes were good. We scored a good goal with Amine, we are disappointed with their first one because we thought there was a hand ball involved but we are pleased with the cross from Elliott Hewitt for the goal and you thought it was going to be us that went on.
“In the end they score a goal; that set us back and I thought in the second half there wasn’t enough about us to break them down.
“That was not a satisfactory performance, they [the players] have heard that from me and I’m sure they know that themselves.”
