Peter Taylor delighted with second half display as Gills come from behind with 10 men to defeat Crawley 2-1
Peter Taylor heaped praise on his players following a fantastic comeback victory with just 10 men against Crawley in the JPT on Tuesday night.Gillingham won the game 2-1 with Jermaine McGlashan and Doug Loft getting their first goals for the club, but only after Izale McLeod had put the hosts ahead via the penalty spot, and Joe Martin seeing red for an off the ball incident with the same player.
The visitors put in a terrific second half display to record a deserved win, and Peter Taylor was delighted with his squad following the interval.
He said: “Tremendous effort in the second half and I thought the players worked incredibly hard to get back in the game, of course we go down to 10 men so they have to work even harder.
“They did and I’ve congratulated them on that, I thought the second half was great and the start of the first was decent but there were too many things in the first half that I didn’t think was enough and I think that’s why we were losing at half time.
“When you are 10 v 11 there is more pressure sometimes on the 11 to make sure that they beat you and you need something to get you back in, and thankfully for us Jermaine McGlashan got his first goal for the club with great calmness.
“You saw afterwards he’s not the best finisher in the world but I thought he took his goal superbly well.
“In the second half they couldn’t have done any more.”
As for Martin’s sending off, the Manager said the following:
“My complaints are that it was either two yellows or two reds. Joe is saying he got pushed first by Izale McLeod and everyone agrees with that.
“He might have got pushed in the throat area – Joe shouldn’t have pushed but he has. Why is one red and one a yellow? That’s harsh but we will have a look at it on the video.”
