Callum Davies reveals his pride after signing a new contract which keeps him at the club until the summer of 2016
Callum Davies says he is delighted to have committed his future to Gillingham after signing a one year extension to his current contract. The centre-back signed his new deal last week having impressed during the early part of the season, and the defender is only too happy to continue his relationship with the club until the summer of 2016.
He said: “I’ve been here since I was seven years old so I’m happy – I’m enjoying my Football so I’m just pleased to have got it sorted and I can now concentrate on my game.
“I just want to work hard, play well when I get the opportunity and if I do that it’s more difficult to take me out of the team.”
The 21-year-old arrived at the club 14 years ago and paid tribute to the coaches that have brought him through the system, and is confident there are plenty more to come.
He added: “Bryan Bull was my first U9’s Manager and he’s still here so it shows how good the system is and plenty of players have come through.
"The likes of Jack Payne who is Captain of Peterborough proves how good the setup is so fingers crossed a lot more of the younger players can progress.
“Darren Hare and Mark Patterson have been brilliant too and they worked hard with me to get me where I am now.”
Davies has captained the side twice this season, winning on both occasions in the JPT, and he revealed what a proud moment it was at Stevenage to lead the team out.
He added: "Captaining the team was a brilliant experience and I played a lot more than I thought I would and hopefully I can just kick on and let my feet do the talking.
“Hess gave me the armband and I didn’t know anything about it, I thought he was joking and it was a bit of a shock.
“It was brilliant to keep a clean sheet and get a win, I’ve Captained every team through the system so it was a pleasure to finally make it to the top tier.”
