Peter Taylor delivers his immediate reaction to the 1-1 draw with Rochdale at Spotland
Peter Taylor praised the fighting spirit of his players after securing a late point in a 1-1 draw against Rochdale at Spotland on Saturday afternoon.Peter Vincenti had put the hosts ahead midway through the first half, but after failing to take advantage of their opportunities in the second half, Gillingham grew in confidence and equalized with seven minutes to play following a clever finish from Cody McDonald.
After a disappointing result last week, Peter was pleased with the belief his team showed.
He said: “I was delighted with the character of the players.
“We stuck at it, we didn’t give in and if we were to stop making wrong decisions I think we will get a bit more confidence in our games.
“We make wrong decisions and put ourselves under pressure and that’s why at times we are on the back foot – that’s just about learning the game.
“The work rate of the players and the belief they could get back in it was very good.
“If they get the second we have a bigger problem, but while it’s one you have to keep going and they didn’t get the second.
“We didn’t show last Saturday that we can fight and that was a disappointing performance for us last week against Scunny.
“Today we proved we can fight.”
