0-0 draw against Walsall at MEMS Priestfield Stadium on Saturday afternoon.Peter Taylor said there were plenty of positives to take away from the
Gillingham had the majority of possession in the second half and looked more likely to net the winner, but in the end had to settle for a point.
The Manager admitted his team could play better but praised the opposition for their performance too.
He said: “We did some decent things but when we eventually got to the final third I don’t think we had enough cleverness either in the delivery of the ball or the positions of the players to be in area to get the ball.
“Walsall again showed why they were one of the best passing teams in the division last year.
“I just felt we could have passed the ball around much easier and quicker to each other in the first half, I felt people were trying too hard and maybe trying things that were a little more difficult than what was on.
“If you can keep getting something every time you have a match then you’re not going to be a bad team. There are positives; I know we can play a lot better.
"The players know that and we would have loved to have put on another good performance like we did against Peterborough, but it wasn’t to be.
“There were times last year we would have been crying out for a 0-0 and a home draw at times so I think we are progressing.”
