THE BOYS GAVE EVERYTHING - TAYLOR

Peter Taylor delivers his immediate reaction following the 2-1 defeat to Sheffield United at Bramall Lane

Peter Taylor said his side could not have worked any harder following the 2-1 defeat to Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Saturday.

Luke Norris struck on 83 minutes to give Gills the lead, but the Blades found the net twice courtesy of Michael Higdon and Jamie Murphy in the last 10 minutes to snatch victory in a dramatic afternoon.

After the game Peter said: “I’m pleased with the way the boys played, I think they worked as hard as they possibly could and with a little bit of luck we could have got something out of the game.

“Of course extremely disappointed with the lateness of the winner [in the seventh minute of added time] for them, but they are a very good team.

“We came here with a plan and we have to do that because Sheffield United are promotion favourites, rightly so.

“They are always going to have more possession and will cause you problems and you have to defend well and I thought we did that.

“You also do know that with the pace we have got in the team that we can score a goal out of nothing aswell.

"All of a sudden Luke Norris comes on and it wasn’t pace that got him the goal, it was fantastic ability with a brilliant finish.

“That’s what happens.

“The boys gave everything they could and I thought we deserved to get something out of the game.

“I know that they had more chances and I understand all that but that’s what’s going to happen a lot here when teams come to Bramall Lane.

“I’ve got no complaints whatsoever.”
