Gills boss looks ahead to Bradford's visit to Priestfield
Justin Edinburgh insists his players will fight until the very end to finish the season on a high. The Gills are 14th in League One going into Saturday’s game against Bradford at Priestfield having not won at home since mid-February, but Edinburgh is keen for his players to respond well and finish the campaign in good form.
He said: “We want to give the fans a good end to the season that they crave for as much as we do.
“We want to finish on a high, simple as that. We showed on Monday that we are still going for it and we will right until the end.
“We want to beat last year’s points tally and finish higher than we did. We want to take good form into the end of the season and into next – everyone remembers the end you have and we want to make sure it’s a good one.”
Bradford still have ambitions of a top six finish, but Justin wants his players to concentrate on their own strengths rather than worry about the opposition.
He added: “Everyone that we come up against in the last five games will have something to play for – Bradford still have that incentive of making the playoffs so they are looking to win more games than they draw or lose.
“It’s a test for young Max and John and whoever else steps in there. Any team plays to their strengths, why wouldn’t you? In Hanson and Stead they have two strong centre forwards that will cause any defence a handful, which they showed in their cup run against Premier League opposition.
“What we have to do is impose on ourselves on them; it will be a stern test for our back line.
“It’s more about us; we’ve got to find that intensity, craft and desire to perform here. It’s not through a lack of effort but we need to have more of a cutting edge and creativeness in the final third and have that belief.”
