Steve Lovell reflects on an enjoyable season at Priestfield
First Team Coach Steve Lovell says he has very much enjoyed his first full season back at the club. After starting the campaign as the Youth Team Manager, Steve was part of the `Gang of Four` that took over on an Interim basis before accepting his new post in the First Team under new boss Justin Edinburgh.
And with just two games left to go the former Gills striker is hopeful of ending the season on a positive note.
He said: “We’ve had a really decent second half of the season, we’ve had a few disappointing results at home but you’re going to get that. You’re not going to go through a whole season when you’re on top all the time.
“It’s about understanding how you’ve lost those games, and if you do, you can work on that.
“You’re not going to play well every game and we’ve had good results through not playing particularly well and the players know that.
“But when we have played well there have been some excellent performances, the Bristol City and Swindon performances were excellent.”
Steve was asked how he reflects on the season and in particular during his time as joint Caretaker Manager.
He replied: “It was a position we had to address very quickly, which we did, and the players responded to it. We picked up and the Manager has come in and taken that forward again and hopefully we will finish in a position which, during those days, we would have taken.
“I’ve enjoyed all of it; I enjoy working at this Football Club. Yes there was lots going on and we had to do everything [before Justin's arrival] but we get on with it, we love it.
“You can’t beat getting out there on a Saturday and getting three points.”
