WOMEN AND GIRLS UPDATE 15

Weekly update of what has been happening at the club…..

Cup success for Gills Ladies

Gillingham Ladies had two successive away cup games in early December against Lewes Ladies and London Corinthians with extra time being played in both games, however, both games ended with the team progressing to the next round of the FA Women’s Premier League Plate and the FA Women’s Cup.

The draw for both these cups have been made and the team have been drawn away to Forest Green Rovers in the FA Women’s Cup on Sunday, January 10 and home against Newcastle United WFC in the FA Women’s Premier League Plate on Sunday, January 31.

Disappointment for Gills Ladies in the League

Unfortunately the Ladies home fixture against Lowestoft Town LFC on Sunday, December 13 was postponed due to the visitors being unable to field a team. The team had begun warming up and had welcomed TW Forester Girls U10s as mascots for the match but the team did not disappoint and played a small game against the mascots, the girls absolutely loved it! Thank you Ladies.

The Ladies next home game against Enfield Town on Sunday, December 20 has also been postponed due to the away teams cup game taking preference.

We would like to wish all our players, families and fans a Happy Christmas and we look forward to seeing you in the New Year.

Ladies get into the festive spirit!

Girls Centre of Excellence

After a visit to Essex last Saturday our Girls are now on a well-deserved Christmas break, but not before enjoying the festivities at their Christmas parties, which saw the U17s, U15s and U13s head over to Maidstone to experience Gravity Trampoline Park. The squads had a fantastic time and made some of the coaches feel very old as they tried to keep up with all the bouncing going on and a few  were left with some very aching backs the next day. Thank you to the teams from Gravity for looking after us, everyone had a great time.

U17s GK, Katie Startup’s Christmas break will begin once she returns from Germany, where she has been with the England squad as they take part in a friendly tournament with Germany and France. Well done again Katie and hope you are enjoying the experience.

Happy Christmas to all our players, parents and their families and we look forward to seeing you all back in the New Year.

Girls Academy

Last week the Girls headed off to Wembley to take in the sights and sounds of the National Stadium and of course grab a few selfies as they walked out of the tunnel. The girls also managed to recreate some iconic photos as they made their way around the Stadium and also get some shots with the Lionesses England shirts and it’s fair to say a great day was had by all.

The Girls were also treated to a VIP tour this week of the brand new fitness suite at Canterbury College and try out some of the new equipment, thank you to the team from the College for welcoming the girls along.

They rounded the week of with Christmas Jumpers and Secret Santa, thank you for all your hard work this year girls, enjoy your break, have a fantastic New Year and see you all in January.

Female Football Development

Term One of our FFD programme has seen such an exciting and engaging group of girls across a variety of schools whose commitment to the fun football school clubs has been so impressive that the students at The Rochester Grammar School begged for one last Christmas training session, which fell outside the 10 week programme.

As the girls have been so excellent this term it was hard to say no, especially as they were all committed to bringing head torches to ensure we could train with lights for the whole hour. As suspected the girls were in high Christmas spirits, head torches at the ready and with lots of Christmas songs playing. The session was a great way to round off an excellent Term One and get us excited to start Term Two in January, thank you to everyone who has taken part and made the programme a massive success.
