Gillingham Manager has revealed he is interested in keeping striker John Marquis on a longer term basis
Justin Edinburgh has revealed he has declared an interest in retaining the services of striker John Marquis on a longer term deal. The striker has scored six goals in eight games since signing for the Gills on loan from Millwall, and the Manager has already registered his intentions to try and keep the forward beyond his short term contract.
He said: “I’ve had a couple of conversations with John’s agent so we’ve made it aware we’ve liked what John has done and he has a liking for this Football Club so it’s something that’s on-going.
“When someone comes along like John you want to throw your hat in the ring and see what you can do.
“He’s always had potential and it goes without saying that he’s enjoying his Football.
“He’s settled into the group and he’s a player, like every one of them, enjoy coming to training. Their enthusiasm and willingness to perform and learn every day makes it easy.
“John can be critical of himself at times, he does tend to beat himself up a bit at times and we are just trying to work with him and not take as long getting over bad moments so that he stays in the game for longer periods but he’s certainly in great scoring form and his partnership with Cody is one that is getting better all the time.”
