Andy Hessenthaler talks to the club website ahead of Saturday's game against Oldham at Priestfield
Andy Hessenthaler says it would be a big boost for the players if they could record back to back home wins with victory over Oldham at Priestfield on Saturday. The Gills recorded a 3-1 win over Coventry last Saturday and Hessenthaler, who forms part of the caretaker management team, says a repeat performance would give the squad a good chance of success.
Speaking to the Gills website he said: “They are a good side; they were on a sticky run before the Fleetwood game but they have a young Manager there who likes to play Football the right way and it will be a tricky game.
“We said at the training ground just go out there and express yourselves, play with confidence and work very hard like you did last week, and all season.
“To be fair they have been doing that all season, it hasn’t just been for the last few games. They are a young group of players who need a bit of direction, they’ve been getting that but we just need a bit of a consistent run and we’ll be OK.
“We are in the second half of the season now, it’s a case of spinning plates at the moment but we are working hard as a group of four and getting on with the job we have been told to do.”
As for team news, Andy said there has been no fresh injury concerns.
He said: “No, we’ve been OK. Joe Martin has trained for the last couple of days so he will come back into the squad.”
