Gills striker John Marquis looking forward to playing at Priestfield as the team prepare to host Coventry
John Marquis says he is looking forward to making his home debut for the club, if selected, when Coventry City visit Priestfield on Saturday. The striker, who signed on loan from Millwall last Thursday evening, made his first appearance for the Gills in the 3-1 defeat to Crewe, and although his move to Kent happened quite quickly he says he has settled in very well.
Speaking to Gills Player he said: “I’ve settled in really well – the players and the staff have been very welcoming and we’ve had a good week’s worth of training and I’m looking forward to the game today.
“It will be a big game, we want to pick up some points and with the crowd behind us hopefully we can get into the game early, get a goal and calm a few nerves.
“We were a bit unlucky last weekend with a few decisions but hopefully they even out over the course of the season.”
Marquis played alongside Cody McDonald at the Alexandra Stadium last weekend having only signed for the club hours before traveling to Cheshire.
He added: “It developed really quickly, I got the phone call from Hessy on Thursday afternoon – I was at home so I had to go back to the training ground to sign all of the paperwork and then I was on the bus Friday morning.
“Scoring goals here as a team won’t be a problem, we just need to work a bit better defending as a unit.
“I’m pretty physical, I work hard, I can score goals and I would say I’m a bit of an all-rounder. I just want the team to win, that’s the most important thing.”
