GOOD LUCK TO GILLS LIONESS

Gillingham goalkeeper selected for U16's Girls tournament in Denmark

Everyone at Gillingham FC would like to wish our own Lioness, Girls Centre Of Excellence Goalkeeper Katie Startup all the best at the U16s Nordic Tournament currently taking place in Denmark.

Katie is no stranger to England call-ups and it’s testament to her hard work and dedication that she has again been selected for England duties in this tournament.

This season saw Katie experience highs and lows with our U17s as she started the season with an injured hand but she made her return in fine fashion and was involved in our fantastic FA Cup run, which saw the squad make it all the way to the semi-finals against Aston Villa having knocked out reigning champions Liverpool in the previous round and, in doing so, make their own piece of history along the way.

Katie joined up with other Centre of Excellence players and travelled out to Denmark for the tournament this week. As well as Denmark, England are facing Finland and The Netherlands with Sweden, Iceland, Norway and Germany making up the other group.

The finals will take place on Saturday.

U17s Head Coach Pete Sayer said: "I can’t speak highly enough of Katie; she’s a pleasure to coach and is always striving to improve her game and reach her next goal.

"She’s a key figure not just in the U17s squad but to all at the Centre and is a fantastic inspiration to our Centre girls and everyone involved at Gillingham FC."

Good luck Katie and continue to inspire.
