WAYNE HATSWELL CONFIRMED AS GILLS YOUTH COACH

Gillingham FC announce Wayne Hatswell as the club's new U18s Coach

Gillingham FC are delighted to announce the appointment of Wayne Hatswell as the club’s new U18’s Coach.

The 40-year-old former Cambridge player will team up with Justin Edinburgh once again having worked with the Gills boss at Newport County last season.

Hatswell enjoyed a 20-year career as a player, featuring for clubs including Oxford, Kidderminster, Forest Green and Chester.

The former defender has enjoyed one spell in charge as a first team Manager, taking over at Northern Premier League Division One South side Stamford in 2013 where he achieved promotion before being offered a coaching role at Rodney Parade.

Justin Edinburgh added: “Wayne is an excellent coach and somebody I know very well having worked together at Newport County for some time.

“This role will fit him perfectly and I know the staff, and the players, are very much looking forward to working with him. Wayne will oversee the progress of the individuals within the U18 programme and will work alongside Darren Hare and Mark Patterson to aid their development.”

Hatswell will take over the Under 18’s role from Hare who filled in for Steve Lovell towards the end of last season. Hare has recently been announced as joint Manager of the Gills Ladies team alongside Jack Wheeler.

In addition, the club have also appointed Adam Roach as our new Head of Academy Sports Science & Medicine. Adam, having also worked at Newport, replaces Luke Powis who left the club earlier in the year.

Justin added: “Adam is an excellent physiotherapist, he was excellent during my time at Newport and I’m sure he will be a key member of our medical and sports science team moving forward.”

We welcome both aboard and wish them well for the future.
