The first round draw for the Capital One Cup will take place on Tuesday June 16
Gillingham will be one of the seeded teams for the Capital One Cup first round draw next Tuesday (June 16, 10am).Justin Edinburgh’s side are one of 32 seeds for the draw, with each team taking on a non-seeded club.
For the Round 1 draw, the seeded teams will be split into two regional groups (based predominantly on a ‘North’ and ‘South’ split), and drawn against an unseeded team from the equivalent pot on a random home or away basis.
First round ties will be played the week commencing August 10, just a few days following the opening league fixture of the season on Saturday August 8.
The Gills have been drawn away from home in four of the last five seasons for the opening round, including last year when an excellent second half strike from Aaron Morris against Yeovil gave the visitors, then under the management of Peter Taylor, a 2-1 victory which saw them drawn against Newcastle United in the second round.
The last time the club were drawn at home in the opening round was during the 2013/14 season when Bristol City left Priestfield with a 2-0 win thanks to goals from Sam Baldock and Jordan Wynter.
The draw for the first round will be made at 10am on Tuesday. We will announce our opponents first on @TheGillsFC.
