MARTIN SIGNS FOR MILLWALL

Joe Martin met his new team-mates for the first time on Thursday morning

Joe Martin has signed for League One Millwall.

The former Gillingham left back was released by the club at the end of the 2014/15 season having made 179 appearances in a four-and-a-half year spell.

He scored eight goals during that time, the last of which coming in the 2-1 win over Colchester United on Boxing Day.

He joins a team who will be looking to bounce back to the Championship at the first time of asking having suffered relegation to the third tier of English football last season.

On arriving at the New Den Joe told Millwall's website: "There was initially interest in me from Millwall two years ago and I was tempted then. But Gillingham had just been promoted and I ended up staying there. This time, however, when I heard that the opportunity might be there for me again I was really excited and there was no way I was going miss it this time."

"For me Millwall is a big club with passionate fans and with Neil Harris in charge there is clearly a buzz about the place."

"I already know John Marquis and Andy Frampton, the new Development Coach, and I'm looking forward to the trip to Portugal which will be a good opportunity to get to know people and for us to bond as a group."

Gillingham FC would like to thank Joe for his services while at MEMS Priestfield Stadium and we wish him well for the future.
