BOURNEMOUTH 2-2 GILLINGHAM FC: REPORT

Bournemouth leave it late to secure a point against Gills development squad

Bournemouth struck twice in second half stoppage time to record a 2-2 draw against the Gills in a Final Third development league fixture on Tuesday afternoon.

Brennan Dickenson had put the visitors in front with a close range header before an excellent strike from Antonio German seemed to have given Mark Patterson's side victory.

However, with Josh Pritchard being dismissed for a late tackle, the Cherries battled back with Josh Carmichael and Ben Whitfield netting late on to claim a point.

Mark Patterson said: "Tom made two or three good saves, they opened us up quite easily at times but we fine tuned our shape and started getting into the game.

"Josh hit the bar from 55-60 yards out and it showed good awareness, we went in at half time 0-0 though.

"In the second half we took the game to them and took the lead, Antonio put a ball to the back post and Brennan headed in.

"Josh was then sent off, no complaints from us. We did get a second when Antonio got through, cut inside and struck from distance which whistled past the keeper.

"We were managing the game quite well but in injury time we gave away a penalty. They scored and then got a goal from a cross from the right.

"Disappointing but I was really pleased with the application and Bournemouth are a good team - we went two ahead and deservedly so but we just couldn't quite hold on."
