GILLS SIGN AMARI'I BELL ON LOAN

Manager Justin Edinburgh has added a left back to his squad ahead of Saturday's game against Colchester

Gillingham have added to their defensive options with the signing of Amari’i Bell from Championship side Birmingham City.

The 20-year-old left back has joined on loan for the rest of the season, providing cover for the injured Joe Martin who will be out of action for at least the next two weeks after picking up a hamstring injury during the 3-0 defeat to Chesterfield on Tuesday.

Bell has made one appearance for Birmingham, that coming in a league game in January 2014 against Leicester at St.Andrew’s, playing the full 90 minutes.

However he has gained experience at other clubs, most recently for Swindon Town earlier this season on 11 occasions. He made his debut for the Robins on September 27 in a 3-0 away win at Barnsley.

He remained at the County Ground until December 20.

In addition to that he has also had spells at Kidderminster, Mansfield and Nuneaton.

In his programme notes Justin Edinburgh said: “He’s a good up and coming player, he played in a very good Swindon side and acquitted himself very well there.

“I’m delighted Birmingham have allowed for Amari’i to join us until the end of the season and will fit straight into that left back berth.

“I’m sure everyone will welcome him to the Football Club.”

Amari'i has been given squad number 21.
