Gills striker delighted to win Goal of the Season award on same day he finds the net for the first time at Priestfield
Luke Norris said he was delighted to win the Goal of the Season just hours after netting his first goal for the club at MEMS Priestfield Stadium against Notts County. The supporters overwhelmingly chose his strike against the Blades as their stand out goal for Sunday's award ceremony, and Norris revealed it was one of his favourite goals considering the location and opposition.
Speaking to the club website he said: “It was one of my favourites considering it was against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane with a big crowd there.
“I remember Joe throwing it in, I took my first touch and then saw two of their defenders coming behind me and I decided to try and spin it behind them.
“I saw it bouncing and when you see that you just want to leather it; it was on my weaker side but I focused on hitting the target and it smashed the underside of the crossbar before nestling in.
“It was my second goal for the club and I was over the moon with it.”
Luke came off the bench against Notts County and found the bottom corner in the fifth minute of stoppage time to seal a 3-1 win, with all six of his previous goals occurring in away fixtures.
The forward admitted it was a relief to finally see it happen and will look for more at home in 2015/16.
He added: “It’s been a long time coming and it should have happened earlier in the season but it was just one of those things and it’s a big relief for me.
“It finally came, it’s off my back now and hopefully next season I can move forward and get a few more here at Priestfield.”
