Minterne have become the latest team to advance in our popular half time shoot out competition
Our last home fixture against Southend United saw Game 3 of the first round of the Lawtech Half-time Shoot-out take place between Minterne Community Junior School and English Martyrs Catholic Primary School.
The players have just seven seconds to score from the edge of the D and can choose to dribble and shoot or simply fire one at goal. The keepers are allowed to move off their line as soon as the whistle sounds and put the striker under pressure meaning that both have to think and act fast.
Both teams waited eagerly at the side of the MEMS Priestfield pitch, waiting to walk out in front of the noisy Gills fans, hoping they could convert their chance and help their school progress to the quarter finals.
As the shoot-out got going it was very evident that penalties had been practiced, a brilliant first penalty from Minterne slid into the bottom corner then a excellent save from their keeper denied English Martyrs their first goal. Following two fantastic goals both sides then missed their next after two superb saves from the keepers.
Minterne managed to edge out in front as their keeper pulled of more quality saves and then he confidently stepped up to score their 5th and final penalty and seal the win.
A massive thank you to both teams for their brilliant efforts and congratulations to Minterne Community Primary School on progressing to this seasons Quarter Finals.
Our next Half-Time Shoot-Out fixture will take place on Saturday 14th November when Gillingham face Bury at Priestfield between St William of Perth RC Primary School and St Benedicts RC Primary School.
